Picture this:
After 15 hours of air travel and a five hour time change, you arrive home. Your children are elated to see you and quickly remind you of the Halloween costumes you haven’t finished.
You smile and hold yourself together for a while, but then need sleep. After a nap, pumpkins are carved, dinner is shared and costumes are finished. Off to bed – you get an extra hour of sleep due to “falling back” off of daylight savings time, yet it is still not enough.
The next day is filled with Halloween festivities, but you are still dragging.
This is just a quick look into my re-entry from vacation. Ten days with my husband was wonderful, but we hit the ground running when we returned. Our weeks have been hectic and I’ve found myself frustrated at my inability to do everything.
The girls’ birthday is on Sunday and I’m beating myself up because I haven’t managed to get all of the favors and decorations yet.
Busy women are our own worst enemies! Why wasn’t I proud of myself for hopping off the plane and still managing to provide a great Halloween for my girls even though I was jet lagged?
So, tonight I declare a truce with myself! The important stuff will get done, the rest doesn’t matter. The trick is knowing, and recognizing, the difference.
Think about it. Give yourself credit for what you are doing well. Take a breath and figure out which things on your list really are important. Shake of the guilt and let go of what isn’t important. Declare your own truce!
Good for you, Eliz...and thanks for the inspiration to declare my own truce. I have a tendency to get bogged down with the details, sweating the small stuff. I should read this blog entry everyday! ;) Enjoy the girls' birthday!! A big day for all of you!
